While retaining an open mind about his work and direction while teaching, his imaginative approach to design was an inspiration to many students. His simple solutions to complex problems, his keen observation and sharp humour stayed with him throughout his life. What made him tick was this combination of his organizing ability, a preoccupation as an educator and the gift of reducing complexity to its essentials, then presenting them with simple functionality. There are so many happy memories which come to my mind of the extraordinary dedicated man, who would always find time to listen and be willing to help find solutions to problems with vigour and sharp mind. The design profession in Kenya was poorer after his departure from Nairobi, because of his innovative and untiring work towards the development of the profession in Kenya. |
